Aluminium lock nuts secure cable glands, conduit fittings and connectors to enclosures and gland plates. They are tightened on the inside of the enclosure to lock the gland in the clearance hole.
Metric M16–M90 × 1.5 or 2.0 pitch, PG7–PG48, NPT 1/2 in to 4 in and BSP sizes are available, matching standard gland and conduit threads.
Lock nuts are machined from 6061-T6 or 6082-T6 bar, or stamped from 5052 or 5754 sheet, giving a good balance of strength, corrosion resistance and machinability.
Both styles are available. Hexagonal lock nuts are tightened with a spanner, while serrated or castellated designs can bite into the enclosure wall for better grip and electrical continuity.
Torque depends on thread size and gland design; aluminium lock nuts should be tightened firmly but less than steel equivalents to avoid thread damage. Using a gland spanner and following the gland manufacturer's recommendations is best.
Yes. Uncoated or chromate-coated lock nuts with serrations provide earth continuity to metal enclosures. Anodized lock nuts are insulating on the surface, so serrations or earth tags are used where continuity is required.
Yes. Standard lock nuts are 3–5 mm thick, while thicker lock nuts provide more thread engagement for heavy glands or vibrating equipment.
Natural, clear or black anodized, chromate conversion and nickel plated finishes are available to suit the gland and enclosure.
They can, but in wet or corrosive environments dissimilar-metal contact between brass and aluminium can cause galvanic corrosion. Using matching-material nuts or plated finishes is recommended.
Threads are checked with go/no-go gauges, across-flats and thickness are measured with calibrated instruments, and finish is visually inspected before packing.
