A CW gland terminates steel-wire-armoured (SWA) or aluminium-wire-armoured (AWA) cable in indoor and outdoor locations. It clamps the armour for mechanical retention and earth continuity and has an outer seal on the cable sheath to keep out water and dust.
When installed with an entry sealing washer and correctly tightened outer seal, CW glands are designed for IP66 protection against dust and powerful water jets.
CW glands have an outer seal only, while E1W glands add an inner seal on the cable bedding. E1W glands are used where maximum weatherproofing and IP68 protection are required.
CW glands are used with SWA and AWA cables with PVC, LSF or XLPE outer sheaths, within the gland's specified armour and sheath diameter ranges.
CW glands are manufactured to BS 6121 and BS EN 62444 performance requirements for mechanical strength, retention and ingress protection.
Metric entry threads from M20 to M90 × 1.5 are standard, with NPT and PG entry threads available on request.

Outer seals are typically neoprene or silicone for weather and temperature resistance; LSF seals are available for low-smoke requirements.
The armour cone and clamping ring grip the armour wires, providing a continuous earth path from armour to gland body and enclosure.
Lock nuts, earth tags, entry sealing washers and PVC or LSF shrouds are recommended for a complete installation.
